Failed onboarding via lightning on mainnet

During a simple test to try Bark on Mainnet (via Umbrel), I consistently get failed payments during onboarding via Lightning.

Steps:

  • On the bark dashboard, choose Receive
  • On the popup, switch to Lightning
  • Enter amount in sats (e.g. 10 sats)
  • Pay lightning invoice qr from Muun wallet
  • In Muun: Payment failed. You received a refund.

Our Lightning node is currently experiencing issues and we’re looking into it. Will report back when it’s back to normal so you can attempt another payment.

@okb-1 We’re back to normal now, sorry about the disruption. Please try again and let us know how you get on.

I just tested 10 sats from a Muun wallet to Bark Wallet and it delivered fine :+1:

I did a 10k sats ther-and-back to Strike. It worked fine and costed me 22 sats together. Mostly (20) paid on bArk to Strike over LN. Strike to bArk fee was just 2 sats.

@AnyoneOReally1 Strike can price lower thanks to their custodial model, users don’t have the costs of per wallet channels or liquidity. Our Lightning fees are still competitive with self-custodial Lightning wallets.

Note that your transaction size put you right on the cusp of our 20 sat minimum fee. We have this minimum due to the way Bark works—the routing fees can’t be known at the moment the payment is initiated, and we need to make sure they’ll be covered. We’re looking at ways we can improve this to make micropayments more viable in future.
